UPDATE ON ROSCOMMON COUNTY COUNCIL SERVICES DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC –  24th March 2020

Roscommon County Council continues to be open for business, delivering our services, notwithstanding in very unusual circumstances. While our offices remain open, in the interests of public health and to conduct our business in the safest manner possible, we are encouraging members of the public to use our online services, telephone, email and post to engage with the Council. In the first instance please use the range of online services available on our newly launched ‘My Online Services’. This portal allows you to avail of a growing number of online services provided by Roscommon County Council. You can also track your requests and will receive email updates on your requests.

RATES

These are very difficult times for everyone. Our priority in Roscommon County Council is to ensure that essential services are maintained and be available to support the HSE in any way we can. Clearly, we understand the difficulties facing a number of businesses at this time and their concerns will not be ignored by Roscommon County Council. We will continue to work with the ratepayers who are experiencing difficulties and we encourage those ratepayers to contact Roscommon County Council.  We would ask ratepayers that can pay or part pay their commercial rates to continue doing so. MOTOR TAX

The public are reminded that applications for motor tax renewals can be processed online at   www.motortax.ie or sent by post to us for processing. We have limited counter services available, which may lead to delays in processing. Phone 090 663710 or email motortax@roscommoncoco.ie with any queries.

 

HOUSING

While our services are operational, there may be a delay in processing some queries. We encourage the public not to call in person where possible but to phone 090 6637230 or email housing@roscommoncoco.ie

 

ENVIRONMENT

The Environment section continues to facilitate the submission of Environmental complaints and encourages the use of phone or email for submission of complaints. Photographs and location details are particularly useful in helping us to locate incidents that are reported. Every effort will be made to inspect incidents and take action where feasible within the resources available and also considering Health & Safety issues and advice relating to the spread of the Covid-19 virus. CIVIC AMENITY SITES:

All Civic Amenity sites are currently operational as normal in Roscommon, Ballaghaderreen, Castlerea and Boyle. Opening hours are Monday, Friday and Saturdays from 8.00am to 4.00pm. Customers are asked to observe ‘Social/Physical distancing’ advice and to co-operate with staff operating the sites.

 

 

LOCAL ENTERPRISE OFFICE (LEO):

Roscommon Local Enterprise Office (LEO) is ready to assist business to address the critical challenges presented by COVID-19 virus pandemic, and we want business owners to know that there are supports in place to further help them with the challenges they are suddenly facing. LIBRARIES

In adherence to the HSE advice our libraries, arts and cultural and leisure centers continue to be closed to the public, but our work continues behind the scenes. You can still get in touch if you would like to access some of the fantastic range of services like audio books, Britannica online, catalogue search and eMagazines. You can now access free eBooks and eAudiobooks through BorrowBox immediately by joining the library online. Visit http://www.librariesireland.ie/join to complete registration and set a PIN. COMMUNITY FACILITIES

Currently all outdoor recreational facilities, remain open to the public with the exception of playgrounds. Closure of playgrounds throughout the county will protect the young against the spread of the virus. We ask parents to please adhere to the closure of the playgrounds and not to allow their children to play there.

Roscommon County Council urge the public, however, to observe social distancing and exercise caution when using facilities.

 

ROADS

We are delighted that our Velocity Patchers are continuing to carry highly effective and efficient road repairs to ensure we maintain a high quality road network for our citizens. All of our roads crews continue to be deployed to general maintenance assignments that allow social distancing guidelines to be followed. The National Regional Roads Office continues to work on our major roads capital projects.

 

WATER

Our water services staff continue to ensure there is a quality water and wastewater service provided throughout the county on behalf of Irish Water. We are continuing with our water and wastewater testing and monitoring as normal. For updates on water services please see www.water.ie or phone 1850 278278.

 

PLANNING

Planning functions are operating as normal but customers are encouraged to post or email documentation to the Planning Department in preference to calling in person. FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES

The Fire Service based from Fire Stations at Roscommon, Ballaghaderreen, Boyle, Elphin & Strokestown continue to respond to emergency calls via the 999/112 system. Fire Safety Enquires can be made by email to ccox@roscommoncoco.ie  or ekelly@roscommoncoco.ie.

Building Control Services

Submission of Fire Safety Certificates and Disability Access Certificates will continue to be accepted by post. HERITAGE: The Táin March Festival which was scheduled for May 2020 has been cancelled. It is hoped that a revised schedule of events may be possible in the Autumn.

 

MEETINGS
The monthly Plenary meeting scheduled for 23rd March has been rescheduled to take place on Monday 30th March 2020 but this is subject to review. All other meetings scheduled to take place during this period (up to 29th March) have also been postponed including Municipal District and Strategic Policy Committee meetings.

We would strongly advise the public to follow the guidance issued by our health professionals in relation to COVID-19. In addition, we would encourage the public to watch out for each other particularly the vulnerable in our society.
