Western Region Drug & Alcohol Task Force - Public Consultation
The Western Region Drug and Alcohol Task Force (WRDATF) is developing its Strategic Plan for 2017 - 2019. A public consultation process is underway and the Task Force is working in partnership with PPNs in the Region (Galway, Mayo & Roscommon) to ensure meaningful engagement at local level.

Consultation is happening in a number of ways:

- A call for written submissions was made in mid-December. If you would like to give your views in writing, please complete the attached submission questionnaire. The deadline for receipt of submissions is January 31st.

- A series of workshops will take place in January/February across the Region. These will be interactive meetings to hear your views on the role and activities of the Task Force. Come along to one of these sessions and tell us what you think:
  • Monday, January 23rd, 6pm - 8pm, Menlo Park Hotel, Galway (finger food will be served at 5.45pm)
  • Wednesday, February 1st, 2.30pm - 4.30pm, Abbey Hotel, Roscommon
  • Thursday, February 2nd, 10am - 12pm, Green Room, MacHale Park, Castlebar
The Task Force does not provide mainstream drug and alcohol services in the Western Region, therefore these workshops will focus on the specific role and activities of the Task Force (such as research, training/awareness raising, community capacity building, collaboration between service providers, and policy influencing).

If you are concerned about drug and alcohol issues in your area, or if group/organisation provides services to those affected, please come along to one of the workshops and give us your views. Please email info@wrdtf.ie to confirm your attendance.

Celebrate World Wetlands Day in Loughnaneane Park, Roscommon
World Wetlands Day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of February to raise global awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet. This particular date is chosen because it marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea.
To celebrate World Wetlands Day this year, a nature walk has been organised in Loughnaneane Park, Roscommon Town, to see the Turlough. The walk will begin at 11am near the Duck Pond in Loughnaneane Park on Thursday 2nd February.  The event is free and all are welcome.  It should be an interesting morning with some very knowledgeable guides lined up. This event is being hosted by the Heritage Office of Roscommon County Council as an action of the County Roscommon Heritage Plan, in conjunction with Roscommon Tidy Towns, The National Parks and Wildlife Service and The Waters and Communities Office.
Loughnaneane Park is a 14 acre recreational area situated in the north western area of Roscommon town bordered by the ruins of Roscommon Castle which is a dramatic and imposing 13th Century Castle. The Park includes a crannog known locally as the Hill o' Bones, a wildflower meadow, bird walk, swift tower, lake feature, mounds, children's playground and car park.
Please dress appropriately and bring binoculars if you have some.

Any queries, please contact Jacinta Carlos, Heritage Office at 090 6637325, or jcarlos@roscommoncoco.ie.
